On June 15, 2025, the “Lange Tag der Stadtnatur” (Long Day of Urban Nature) will take place, and at Teufelsberg Berlin, you can marvel not only at urban street art but also at wonders of nature and plant life.
Lichens are the colorful and diverse survival artists and extreme athletes of the plant world—even in your own neighborhood. Yet few people notice these mysterious dual organisms made of fungi and algae. With around 250 species, they enrich Berlin’s urban nature in all kinds of expected and unexpected places. During a nearly two-hour walk on Teufelsberg, curious participants will discover the uniqueness and diversity of these fascinating symbiotic organisms.
Participants will adopt the “lichen view,” allowing them to recognize and rediscover these vibrant survival artists in their own surroundings. Along the way, this guided nature experience will also share insights into the history and present of Teufelsberg. Curiosity and a joy in exploring urban nature together are warmly welcome.
